Backing To Win
The 3 tipsters that returned the biggest BSP profits for May all had one thing in common. They all backed Billesdon Brook to win the 1,000 Guineas. She became the biggest priced winner of the race, being returned at an SP of 66/1 and a Betfair SP of a massive 161.86. Well done to anyone who was on at BSP.
The service to benefit the most from Billesdon Brook’s win was Speculate To Accumulate Mentions, who proofed her as both a win and place selection. For a while SP2A have been giving out mentions to their members, which are horses at bigger more speculative prices and started proofing the selections to Racing-Index from 21st April. Despite only proofing for 10 days in April, they bagged a profit of +57.55 points, based upon 1 point level stakes at BSP. They then followed up with +162.90 points in May.

SP2A’s Phillipa System was also a service to benefit from Billesdon Brook’s Guineas triumph, having put it up as an each-way bet, helping the service achieve a profit of 41.21 points during May.
It wasn’t just SP2A that advised members to back Billesdon Brook. Smarttips – Power Punt also advised the fillie as an each-way selection and were rewarded for doing so. They’ve not featured in my monthly highlights since December last year. They had an excellent end to the year, but January and February saw them give a lot of their profits back to the bookmakers. May saw them back to winning ways, thanks to Billesdon Brook and they banked a profit of 43.51.
One service that seems to have undergone a transformation in recent times is Bet Dispute Racing comparing the first 5 months of this year, with those from last year, they’ve proofed 309 bets this year, as opposed to 774 during the corresponding period last year. If you take into account they’re now proofing a lot of selections as win and place (which counts as 2 bets) they’ve really cut down on the number of selections. The change in strategy seems to be paying off, as they’re showing a profit of +44.46 to the end of May this year, with +26.80 points from May alone.
You’ll see from the graph below, they finished April with a nice winner, Envoy @ 25/1 (BSP 40.0) and then followed up in May with Ready And Able @ 16/1 (BSP 21.54), Buzz @ 12/1 (BSP 15.0) and then on 28th May had 2 winners 20 minutes apart in Buachaill Alainn @ 9/1 (BSP 14.0) and Dubai Silk @ 8/1 (BSP 12.35).

Another service that started proofing in April, is Five Star Flutter. Things didn’t start too well for them during the first month, but they bounced back well in May with a profit of +24.26 points. Their selections are all proofed as win only and they achieved a strike rate of 30% during May, with winners as high as 15/2 (BSP 9.40) and 7/1 (BSP 8.82). 6 of their bets went off at oddsOn, of which 5 were winners.
Final mention this month goes to RaceBetter – Premium Tips, who also started proofing in April (seems like a good month to have started proofing). They returned a BSP profit of +10.97 points in May, on the back of +18.45 points in April. To the end of May they’d proofed 185 selections, as a mixture of win and place bets, with a combined success rate of 41.6%.
Profits have been well split between the 2 bet types, with 48 wins from 129 bets (SR 37.2%) +18.09 points and 29 placed from 56 (SR 51.8%) +11.15 points. At the time of writing they’ve been on fire in June, with 8 wins from 9 bets so far this month adding an extra 13.03 points in profit. I’m sure after a run like that, they’re due a correction, but they certainly look like a service worth keeping an eye on. The selections they proof are a combination of free and premium tips.

Laying To Lose
Top of the Laying Tipster Services for May were Lay Tips, who achieved a profit of 8.07 points, based upon 1 point risked per bet, with a success rate of 86.3%. It’s the 2nd month in a row that they’ve returned a profit and things look to be on the up after a disappointing start to the year. Their selections mainly go off at 4/1 or lower, with occasional ones drifting to higher odds. They offer a free lay tip each day, as well as a 7 day free trial to their VIP club that gives out an additional 4 lay tips each day.
