Backing To Win
June proved to be an excellent month for tipsters proofing to Racing-Index, with several of them making hay while the sun shined. Top of the stack was T2W Tips – Long Shot Service, which made 90.49 points profit, based upon 1 point level stakes at Betfair SP. You can see from the graph below that their profits were made during the first half of June, with a number of winners coming in the 6/1 to 12/1 price range.
As is often the case with tipsters, after a particularly good run there is often a snap back effect and they were unable to maintain the good form through the latter half of the month, so anyone joining their service half-way through the month, would have missed the profits.

This highlight’s a key point to consider when joining any tipster service. It’s human nature to want to see good profits from a service before you start backing selections with your own money. But that is often the worst time to start backing the selections, as that’s likely to be the time when they hit a run of losers. People then become disillusioned with the service and give up following the selections, before the tipster then hits another run of good form.
It’s therefore essential that if you’re going to follow a tipster service you take a long term view. Look for a service that’s provided consistent profits over at least 6 months, preferably a lot longer and commit to follow their selections for at least a similar length of time. Set yourself a betting of money you can afford to lose, but adjust your stakes, to cope with inevitable losing runs, so that hopefully you wont lose it.
Before you start following selections, think about how you’d feel if half your betting bank got wiped out. Would you still be willing to carry on following the service or would you worry about losing the other half of the bank and give up on the selections. Unless you’re willing to commit to possibly losing the entire betting bank, then it really isn’t a betting bank at all.
If you look at the proofing performance chart for a tipster and you see that recent bets have outperformed the normal profits for a service that’s possibly not the best time to start backing their selections. But by the same token it’ll be nigh on impossible to get your timing exactly right, so don’t beat yourself up if you you start following a service and you encounter a run of losers out of the gate, just think about the reasons why you joined the service in the first place, stick with your betting bank.
Another service that had great results in June was SP2A – 2015 Elite Service. They made a total BSP profit of 68.86 and I previously reported at the end of Ascot that 67.46 points profit came during the Royal meeting, so not much else I can say about their profit for the month. Their Elite service is their specialist Big Race Feature, where they target big field handicaps, with one or two selected races every Saturday and at least one race selected at the big horse racing Festivals.
Back in March I mentioned the results of the 2020 Racing service. Things had been a bit quiet for them throughout April and May, but they hit form again during June, with a number of double figure winners, giving them an overall profit of 57.28 points, despite being down 37 points at one point early in the month.
This illustrates perfectly the point I was making above. If someone decided to follow the 2020 Racing service, after their good March performance, they’d have seen 40 points wiped off their betting bank by early June (see graph below). If they’d given up following the selections at that point, they’d have missed out on over 120 points profit that followed.
2020 Racing Performance for beginning of April to end June 2017
Similarly jumping in on 22nd June, after 3 weeks of fantastic profits, would not have been a good time to start following their selections, as the inevitable snap back resulted in a loss of 45 points.
Another service to illustrate the point is Speedy Equines Exclusive Meet. They got my tipster of the month award for April, but anyone who started backing their selections from the beginning of May, would have been down 43 points by early June. Giving up on selections at that point would have seen them miss out, as the service bounced back into form. Overall they made a BSP profit of 30.97 for June.

Stable Winners only started proofing to Racing-Index on 15th June, but despite only proofing for half the month, still managed a BSP profit of 48.9 points, from 73 selections. As you can see from the graph below, the profit has been pretty consistent since they started proofing. Their strike rate has been 23.29%, with winning SPs ranging from 11/10 up to 16/1. Very early days and it’ll be worthwhile keeping an eye on whether they can continue such fine form, or if we’ll see any snap back.

Laying To Lose
Top laying service for June was L7ucky7, who banked 10.86 points profit, based upon 1 point risk per selection. A large part of that profit was due to Dutch Golden Age finishing 2nd, at odds of 1/7, which earned a profit of 6.33 points. In all they successfully laid 19 of their 30 selections and they are now showing a profit on all their selections since they recommenced proofing in February.
