Backing To Win
There were a few standout performers in August, with the most notable being Stable Winners. They’ve only been proofing to Racing-Index for 3 months and I’ve previously mentioned them a few times, but they went even better in August, racking up a profit of 192 points based upon 1 point level stakes at Betfair SP. A large amount of that profit was due to Breton Rock, winning on the 1st day of the month at 50/1, with BSP paying a whopping 163.80, so I guess not many punters were following their advice. It was a great start to the month, but it was also followed up with several 10/1 winners.
The graph below shows a record of all their selections since they commenced proofing on 15th June.
Another service that performed really well in August was SpeedRatings.com – Layer Slayer. They previously received a mention in my May roundup and performed well at both the Cheltenham and Royal Ascot festivals. They suffered some heavy losses in June and July, so it was good to see them get back to winning ways, with a profit of 92 points for the month, but they still remain a way off showing a profit for the year overall.
Third in the overall profit stakes goes to A Racing First, who notched up a profit of 68 points. The big winners for them were Frankus @ 8/1 (BSP 12.0), Raising Sand @ 10/1 (12.5), Glenys The Menace @ 8/1 (11.85), Montaly @ 16/1 (29.31) and Hyde Park @ 8/1 (11.0). After a shaky start to the year, they’ve had 4 profitable months in a row and are now showing an overall profit for the year (shown in the graph below).
It’s been a similar pattern for the Equine Expert service, although a bit more of a roller coaster ride. They made a good start to the year, then suffered losses in February through to April, but they’ve now had 4 profitable months in a row and are showing a good overall profit for the year.
A service I previously gave a mention to in March is Oddswise Racing. Back then they’d had a profitable February and March and looked set to built upon the previous years profits, achieved since starting proofing to Racing-Index. They struggled with results from April through to June, which pretty much wiped out the earlier yearly profits, but July and August have seen them back to their best form, with a 20% strike rate returned for each of the 2 months. They now look firmly back on track to repeat their profits of the previous 2 years.
Final mention on the backing front this month goes out to Cheek Pieces, who started proofing to Racing-Index in March this year. Since then their form has been a bit up and down, but a profit of 36.97 points in August has put them in a strong positive position. The final week of August proved particularly good for their service.
Laying To Lose
On the lay betting side Sniper Bets followed up their good July performance, with an even better performance during August. They returned a profit of 14.04 points based upon 1 point risk per selection, at Betfair SP. On the face of it this may not sound a lot when compared with the profits backing horses to win, but what you need to take into account is the strike rate for their bets was 59%. A higher strike rate means the prospect of long losing runs is reduced, so you can stake a larger proportion of your betting, so where as you may say stake 1% of your betting bank, when backing a horse to win, you could maybe risk 5% on a lay bet selection.
Prior to renaming the service as Sniper Bets, they previously proofed as Betfair Humanoid, where they made an additional 11.24 points profit, so overall they’ve now made 28.89 points profit, since they began proofing.
There was also a good showing from Lay Bet Winners, who returned a profit of 9.19 points, with a strike rate of 93%, which was a great performance considering very few of their selections go off at double figure odds. Overall for the year they’re currently showing a loss on their lays, but it was certainly a step in the right direction.
