Following on from the analysis of Sniper Bets proofed lay bets. The owner of the site was kind enough to answer my questions about him and the service he provides:
It’s been a year now since you started proofing the lay bets for your Sniper Bets service. The results you’ve achieved have been very impressive and your service gets featured regularly in my monthly tipster performance reports. Could you tell the Racing-Index visitors a bit about yourself and your background?
I entered the racing industry after I left school in 1983 going to Newmarket and spending the next 33 years working for the world’s best trainers including the late Sir Henry Cecil and Walter Swinburn.
The racing industry has taken me all over the world including Hong Kong, South Korea, Dubai and most recently Gulfstream Park America, as an exercise jockey. I have ridden competitively as an amateur jockey too.
What made you decide to start up a lay betting service?
The racing industry has changed so much over the years, with the available information on offer to the punter in the street, but I felt that those going to the high street betting shops to bet and online for laying horse on the exchanges were largely still in the dark.
I want the man in the street, who works hard for a living, to win with the contacts and knowledge that I can provide.
When you originally started proofing selections your service was called Betfair Humanoid. Did Betfair object to you using their name as part of the name for your service or what was the reason you decided to change it?
Coming up with my website was something that I had considered for a while. Betfair Humanoid was my beginning and was only changed to The Sniper after I was approached to write a weekly article on the weekend racing for myclubbetting.com. A betting company, who felt that they would have concerns on the Betfair Humanoid name.
Do you lay all the selections yourself and if so do you advise members to take a price when placing their bets or lay at Betfair SP. Is there a best time to lay their bets?
I practice what I preach and lay all of my selections that I give to my customers, my parameters being a maximum place price of 3.65 BSP and advise between 5 to 10 minutes to post time in order to get the best liquidity.
Looking at your past results I see nearly 90% of your lays are not to be placed. Do you find any liquidity issues with the place only market? Do you always lay the bets on Betfair or do you use any of the other Betting Exchanges and do you see there likely to become any issues as more people join your service?
I feel that anyone can tell you that a horse will not win at big prices but the gift is to find those that will be unplaced with the short prices available for a good return for your staking plan liability, but ensuring that should it do so it does not set you back too much in your betting bank.
Regarding liquidity issues, neither myself or my customers have any complaints. Going forward currently using only the Betfair platform as I regard it the best marketing tool.
In the past 3 months you’ve proofed around twice as many bets as you did for Betfair Humanoid during the same period last year. In what ways has your service evolved over the past year to account for the increased number of bets?
I spend a lot of my time doing a lot of research and as a result this has increased the volume of selections. I have a Holy bible portfolio of which I have added to over the months since I began. This has helped enormously going forward. I do not expect there to be an increase next year as I look to stay selective and not just throw darts at the board in the hope they stick. At the end of the day the customers put faith in me with their money, so I must try at all times to deliver on this.
I see you use WhatsApp to send tips out to members. That’s quite an unusual way of sending out selections. What’s the reason for using it and do you find it puts some people off joining, who are maybe more used to receiving emails or text?
All of my customers are on my WhatsAPP Broadcast, as I find emailing sometimes unreliable and slow and have had no problems with the customers signing up to my service.
Do you send your bets out at a specific time each day or are they spread throughout the day?
My selections generally are sent out throughout the day as my information becomes available to me.
On your web site you mention about staking plans. Do you advise members to follow any specific staking plan when laying your selections? Do you prefer laying to a fixed stake or a fixed liability and what size betting bank would you recommend?
A betting bank is at the discretion of the customers circumstances advising to stick to a fixed liability or fixed stake according to their experience and financial position.
You also provide a VIP Sharpshooter service that includes selections to back. Could you let visitors know more details about that service.
The VIP Sharpshooter has been successful with my selections coming from some very knowledgeable informants of the highest sources. That is why they are very few and selective, in order to stay in the black.
Finally, is there anything else you’d like to let people know about your service?
I would like to see more public information available that you can bet horses to lose as pretty much everyone I come across do not know of these opportunities to win.
Betfair and other exchange markets only focus the marketing on football cashouts or betting horses to win.
