When IE Software first contacted me about their Tip-ie program, they presented it as a new method for tipsters to deliver their selections, so that customers could easily back or lay them via Betfair, with just a few clicks of the mouse.
I looked at the program and having dealt with them in the past, wasn't surprised to find it did all they said it could. What I was surprised about was that it did a whole lot more and was in fact exactly what I'd been looking for to help with my own betting.
Not only can the software be used to place bets supplied by a tipster, it also enables you to enter your own selections and it will back or lay them, taking the best odds available via Betfair.
I don't get a lot of time during the day to place bets via Betfair, but in order to make a profit from my betting I rely on being able to obtain better odds than SP. I found Tip-ie provides the perfect solution and now use it for pretty much all my betting.
The only thing I found frustrating about the program was that on occasions bets didn't always get taken up. Usually because the horse was fancied to win and someone else took the odds available before Tip-ie got chance to place the bet.
After missing out on a couple of nice priced winners I pointed out this limitation to the guys at IE Software. Within hours they'd produced a new version that checks after a specified period to see if the bet's been taken up and if not adjusts the odds accordingly. So no more missed bets and in fact allows me to get even better odds, as I'll explain later.
The difference between making a Loss and a Profit
I get Tip-ie to place bets 5 minutes before the start time of the race. It doesn't always manage to obtain better odds than SP (as sometimes the horses drift in the market) but on average it's achieved 15.7% better odds (before deduction of commission) from over 5,000 bets. That's enough to make a difference between making a loss and making a profit.
To illustrate the effect this can have on betting profits I've taken 2 charts from the Racing-Index proofing area. They show the performance of Equiform Ratings for 2006. The first chart shows the effect of betting all top rated selections at SP. The 2nd shows the effect of betting the same selections, but obtaining 15.7% better prices than SP and paying 5% commission.
