The 2000 Guineas is a Group 1 flat horse race for 3 year olds (excluding geldings). It is run early in the season over a distance of 1 mile on the Rowley Mile course at Newmarket and is one of five UK classic races.
The race was first run in 1809 and gets its name from the original guaranteed prize fund of 2,000 guineas.
Although eligible to run, fillies rarely take part in the race.
