Course Details
All Weather:
An eight and a half furlong polytrack circuit. Sweeping, slightly cambered
bends exceed Jockey Club track specifications for all-weather, which requires
a minimum 135m radius bend.
It has a chute start for races of seven and eight furlongs and has a two furlong home and back straight.
Turf:
Inside the Polytrack, the turf course will be seeded in 2008, for use in late 2009 or more likely some time in 2010.
Start Racing
On Sunday 20th April 2008 Great Leighs became the first new racecourse to open in Britain for more than 80 years.
Going Racing at Great Leighs
Great Leighs sits 5 miles north of Chelmsford. It is 33 miles from London via the A12 and A131 and is 39 miles from Newmarket.
Via Train
Direct trains from Liverpool street and Stratford reach Chelmsford in 27 and 20 minutes respectively.
Park and ride schemes from Chelmsford/Braintree to Great Leighs are being discussed to service race days.
