On his AtTheRaces blog, Kevin Blake reflects on the key talking points from this year’s Cheltenham Festival. Among other things he looks at the way Gordon Elliott prepared Cause For Causes for the Cross Country Chase, talks about Jessica Harrington being Cheltenham’s leading lady trainer and Ruby Walsh excelling on Yorkhill.
Prior to the festival Kevin was a guest author in the Weatherbys 2017 Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide. For each of the days racing, he took a look at some of the main contenders and said whether he felt they were Bankers or Bust. He also highlighted what he felt was a lively outsider for each of the days:
Bust : Melon – 2nd @ 3/1
Banker : Vroum Vroum Mag – 2nd @11/4
Lively Outsider : Bunk Off Early – 12th @ 16/1
Bust : Carter McKay – 15th @ 11/2
Bust : Douvan – 7th @ 2/9
Lively Outsider : Alpha Des Obeaux – 4th @ 6/1
Banker : Yorkhill – 1st @ 6/4
Banker : Airlie Beach – 14th @ 4/1
Lively Outsider : Presenting Percy – 1st @ 11/1
Bust : Death Duty – Fell @ 13/8
Bust : On The Fringe – 4th @ 11/8
Lively Outsider : Don Poli – Non Runner
Kevin clearly knows his stuff and his blog makes an interesting read.
